In the DECEMBER NEWSLETTER we will discuss the
newest regulations that have been adopted at OEPA concerning STORM WATER
POLLUTION. OEPA is looking to the local governing units to pass legislation
setting up Best Management Practices guidelines to limit the pollutants seen in
the first stormwater flush from the storm sewers. These BMP would be required
for all new developments or redevelopment projects of 1 acre or more of
disturbed area. This will significantly effect developments in Ohio. There are
some exceptions for linear projects such as gas line installation and the like
that do not change grades.
The OEPA is stating that a WATER QUALITY VOLUME of runoff plus 20% must be
intercepted by the BMP structure to satisfy its requirements. Methods of BMP
suggested by OEPA include but are not limited to Low Impact Site Design,
Wetland Water Storage, Green Roofing, Permeable Pavement and Bioretention
Areas. It is important to hire a firm such as McSteen and Associates to guide
you through this new regulatory terrain.

Joke of the month:
A survey team was sent out to a job in Downtown Cleveland to measure the size
of one of the Public Art drawings that was just finished on the side of local
building. The drawing was half way up the outside wall of the building so a
line was set from the roof so one of the surveyors could scale the wall and get
the dimensions. Unfortunately as the surveyor reached the drawings bottom the
line snapped and he fell, hitting his partner, severely injuring both. It was
of course their own fault because everyone knows, you should never scale
drawings.
Did you know that the sheep that give steel wool have no natural enemies.
