In the September NEWSLETTER we will look at Milling of surface pavements. Using a Milling machine with cutting teeth, the existing old, raveled and oxidized asphalt is removed. Milling reduces the overall elevation of the pavement and thus reduces geometric problems. The Milling procedure eliminates ruts and irregularities and provides a level surface of the asphalt overlay. The surface removed is structurally less stable than the new overlay, so that the removal of 3" of old asphalt will require, structurally, only 2" of new pavement. The reduction of pavement thickness is not recommended, therefore the amount removed is replaced adding new strength to the pavement.

Thoughts for September:
A woman of certain hair color decided to try horseback riding, even though she had no prior experience. She mounted the horse unassisted and it immediately springs into motion. It gallops along at a steady pace, but the woman of certain hair color begins to slip from the saddle. In terror, she grabs for the horse’s mane, but can not get a firm grip. She tries to throw her arms around the horse’s neck, but she slides down the side of the horse. Finally, giving up her frail grip, the woman attempts to leap away from the horse and throws herself to safety. Unfortunately, her foot becomes entangled in the stirrup and she is now at the mercy of the horse’s pounding hooves, as her head is struck against the ground over and over. She starts to lose consciousness, but to her great fortune, Bobby, the Wal-Mart greeter, sees her and unplugs the horse.
As long as we mentioned Bobby, are the London Bobbies named after a real Bobby?
They were named for the person that established the London Metropolitan Police in 1829, Sir Robert Peel.
And the Bobbie Pin? Not after a person but after the Roaring Twenties haircut, the bob. |
