Engineering Newsletter - April, 2006

In the April NEWSLETTER we will discuss how Surveying Technology has grown in leaps and bounds in the past decade and how what once was unthinkable, is now reality. As with everything we touch in our daily lives, technology is leaving a wide footprint on the surveying industry.
When Ohio was originally surveyed in the early 1800’s, the survey equipment of choice was a compass and 66 foot chain. A survey crew at that time was from 15 to 20 with members doing everything from clearing brush to watching for Indians. At that time there were no survey instruments called guns but real guns carried by each member of the crew.

Fast forwarding to the year 2006, surveying crews can be as little as 1 person. Now survey tools called Total Stations, a dat gathering device, are now robotic, and can turn angles and measure distances without the need of an instrument person.
Another advancement in surveying is the Global Positioning System. G.P.S. was originally developed by The Department of Defense, but now is available to the general public providing surveyors the opportunity to measure great distances in a very short time. With advancements in G.P.S., surveyors can now located there position to within a fraction of an inch.
The advances in the Survey industry can help you more effectively complete your projects and McSteen and Associates will help you achieve this.

April Howlers:

Casey had a job felling trees and was paid by results. They gave him a power saw and sent him off into the forest with the other crews. At sunset Casey returned with the other loggers and they counted their felled trees. "I got ninty-one", O’brein said. "I got eighty-seven." Quinn said. Casey was amazed because he only had sixteen. The boss said maybe the saw was defective so picked it up and pulled the starter cord and the saw burst into life. "Oh my God, ‘ said Casey, "What’s that noise?"

Coca-Cola was originally GREEN. The only food that will not spoil is honey.
