In this NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER the discussion will be about residential and commercial sites that do not have access to existing sanitary sewers. Many times it will be determined that installation of a sanitary sewer to the site will be too costly, can not be done because of physical constraints or will be denied approval by governing agencies.
We have recommended in the past to our clients the septic tank mound system for their wastewater treatment needs. This technology is used for treating and disposing of wastewater in areas where access to a sanitary sewer is not possible and the area is unsuitable for conventional septic tank soil absorption systems. Mounds are pressure-dosed sand filters placed above and discharging directly to the natural soil. Their main purpose is to provide additional treatment to the wastewater before it enters the natural environment. Mound systems are designed to overcome site restrictions such as:
- Slow or fast permeability soils,
- Shallow soil cover over creviced or porous bedrock, and
- A high water table.
The three components of a mound system are a pretreatment unit, dosing chamber and the elevated mound. Our design reflects the desired design favored by local health departments and the Ohio EPA. This allows for an efficient operating system and a timely approval from the permitting agencies.

Joke of the month: One day there was this Cowboy, who after a long day on the range went out back of the bunkhouse to the outhouse. The door was open and the outhouse empty, but just before he went in he heard a noise from inside. He looked inside and saw no one. He heard a noise again and looked down the hole. He saw an Indian down in the hole.
The cowboy asked, "How long have you been down there?"
The Indian replied, " Many Moons."
-Have you heard about the guy who would play blank tapes full blast to annoy the mime that lived next door?
